Jeff Hunt was born in September 1959 in Oceanside, CA and has been in the water ever since. As his parents did before him, he grew up building sand castles at Moonlight Beach and carving turns at D Street, Stone Steps and Swami’s in Encinitas. He attended San Diegito High School.
He was among the first to skateboard empty swimming pools barefoot in the early 70s and was featured in the Skateboarder magazine’s August 1976 issue.
Jeff moved to Hawaii’s North Shore in 1980 and spent two years there before settling on the Big Island. He has lived in Puna, worked as a carpenter, surfed at Pohoiki, and shaped boards for his community since 1982.
He opened Jeff Hunt Surfboards in 2005. His mother, Julie Foster, manages the shop. See you there! Mahalo plenty for your support. Aloha!
